Victims – why you are important

You are important to us. A trial is all about the prosecution and defence presenting the facts of a case to the court to establish beyond reasonable doubt whether or not the defendant is guilty of the charges brought against them. As a victim of crime your evidence is required to establish exactly what happened to you. It is likely that you will be called to give evidence by the prosecution as a prosecution witness.

Which court will I be attending?

You will receive a letter from the Witness Care Unit or the solicitor who has asked you to attend Court, telling you the date and time of the trial and where it will be held.

You will be advised to attend either:

A Magistrates’ Court
A Youth Court
A Crown Court
