Q. What training will I receive?

A. The Bulk Centre operates a one-on-one desk training system where typically, a certified trainer will run through a training program with you which takes around two weeks to complete.  As well as desk training, there are other core and development training courses held either at this office or in our regional training centres at Birmingham and London.
Q. Will I always stay on one work section or periodically move around the office?

A. We do operate a rotation policy within the office so that staff typically spend around one year on each section before moving to learn a new area of work.  However, where staff express a preference to stay longer (or conversely, a shorter period of time) on a particular section this will be considered subject to the business needs.
Q. What are the promotion and career opportunities?

A. There are regular opportunities to deputise to the next grade or take temporary responsibility depending on abilities to perform to the competences of that higher grade.  Additionally, we frequently advertise formal posts to the higher grade along with positions with a multitude of other Ministry of Justice offices.
Q. Do you offer flexible working hours (flexi)?

A. Yes.  There are various core working times and the flexi system runs between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday.  You will be responsible for working the contracted number of hours within the core periods, as agreed with your line manager.  Where sufficient credit is built up, you may apply for flexi leave on top of your annual leave entitlement.
Q. Can I work a reduced hours or term-time package?

A. Many of our staff work a selection of reduced hour patterns and all requests will be considered depending upon the business needs.  Similarly, we will consider any application for term-time working patterns – each will be based on its own merit.
Q. Do you offer car parking facilities?

A. There is a small car park attached to the office, but car parking spaces are limited.  There are, however, numerous public car parks within the very close vicinity to the office and the Northampton Bus Station is only five minutes walk away.
