Lord Chancellor's Standing Committee for the Welsh Language

In July 1999, the then Presiding Judges of the Wales and Chester Circuit, the then Circuit Administrator and the then Counsel General of the National Assembly for Wales, with the support of the Permanent Secretary to the Lord Chancellor's Department (now the Ministry of Justice) and the head of the then Court Service, established the Lord Chancellor's Standing Committee for the Welsh Language.

The purpose of the Standing Committee is to ensure that various bodies concerned with the administration of justice in Wales adopt the same policies towards the Welsh Language and the implementation of the Welsh Language Act 1993. It is a vehicle by which to minimise costs and difficulties and ensure that proper and uniform practices are in place.
